Councillor's Notebook: Parkside Walkabout 24-July-2008

I have had my little weekly walk-about and reported the following items this evening. (Dedacted)

  • Potential of rubbish piled up in garage ▰▰ Westminster Gardens, LU5. Garage is unlocked, and some rubbish visible to street. SBDC Ref 13664E
  • The former mosaic at Elm Park Close has been grassed over, but there are signs that some pieces of turf have been removed. Please could grounds maintenance people monitor this and make repairs to enable new turf to bed in properly. Customerserviceteam@southbeds.gov.uk email sent.
  • Guttering pieces missing from the corner of front of ▰▰Brentwood Close. Is this council property? Customerserviceteam@southbeds.gov.uk email sent.
  • Garden rubbish has been dumped at the rear of garages close to rear of Brentwood Close. SBDC Ref FT13665E.SBDC Ticket 79701 25/7

  • There are loose bricks on the ground, and missing bricks from a pillar of garage - possibly number ▰▰ - Brentwood Close. Customerserviceteam@southbeds.gov.uk email sent.
  • Outside rear of 150 Trident Drive are mattresses and other rubbish, as previously reported. SBDC FT13666E SBDC Ticket 79695 25/7. .@southbeds.gov.uk
  • Tonight I saw a car parked at rear of ▰▰ Bromley Gardens that had questionable number plates. Blue Vauxhall SRI, number plate "MIOKS A". On the rear number plate, a yellow stud has been placed over the "O" to make it look like "MICKS A". Reported by email to Police

  • A small Asda wheelie shopping trolley in relatively new condition dumped in trees by the side of rear of  ▰▰▰Bromley Gardens, LU5. Access via Bromley Gardens - look for rubbish bins of number ▰▰▰. The trolley is in trees to the South West. Reported via online form at Asda.com RESPONSE: "Please telephone the DUNSTABLE store".
  • There is a lot of graffiti on the side wall of ▰▰▰ Bromley Gardens. A public footpath runs down the side of this. Customerserviceteam@southbeds.gov.uk email sent.
  • There is a broken drain hole grating outside the rear of ▰▰ Westminster Gardens, LU5 5RU a potential vehicle hazard. Beds CC Ref HFR23324E via online form (follow-up via highways@bedscc.gov.uk) RESPONSE: .@bedscc.gov.uk 25th July report 74252

  • Residents are short of parking space at the junction of Bromley Gardens and Parkside Drive, and are regularly parking on the grass verge. Please investigate what further steps could be made to improve parking and advise how you propose to proceed.Customerserviceteam@southbeds.gov.uk email sent.
  • Please advise the responsible authority that there are 2 broken CATV access covers in the public footpath outside 1 and 2 Bromley Gardens, LU5. At least one of these is a potential danger to anyone walking in the area.Customerserviceteam@southbeds.gov.uk email sent.

I am concerned for safety, particularly now more children are at home during the holidays. In what appears to be an improvised (council ? ) seating area in front of ▰ Bromley Gardens is a small quantity of broken wood thrown around. Possibly from the improvised seating area. The same place has damaged brickwork under some railings.

  • Works vehicle access is from Chelsea Gardens, and turn right on entering Chelsea Gardens, and go the the end of the cul-de-sac. The area I'm highlighting is in front of you. Customerserviceteam@southbeds.gov.uk email sent.
  • The bus stop at Chelsea Gardens/Parkside Drive is a downright disgrace. There are swear words on the panels, panels have been burnt through in places (by cigarette lighter ? ), the panels are misted up somewhat (by smeared paint ?) and frankly if I had to stand there every day waiting for a bus I'd have a very dim view of living in Parkside.
  • If there is anything we can do at Parish level to speed up its replacement, please, let's do it soon.
  • email to Stuart.Oliver and copied to j9.

The Goings On in Leafields

I'm actually posting this here 16 years after the canvass on Leafields at Tithe Farm, carried out originally on 16 April 2008. With dedactions.

Rubbish collections – most people happy enough. Some concern over warmer weather when they think there should be weekly collections. Query: Do bins have to be on the street or on a driveway in order to be collected?

Graffitti – no real complaints. Some mentioned building sites graffitti.

Vandalism – no real complaints.

Crime – no real complaints. Would like to see more police presence and less bureaucracy.. Would like to get responses from police when they report a crime and a number plate of the offender.

Potholes – Some concerns that corners of Leafields need attention.

Uneven Paving Stones – Odd side ▰▰ to ▰▰ needs attention.  Slap wristies to whoever repaired pavement outside odd numbered bungalows from ▰▰ to ▰▰because paving stones perfectly good paving stones that were not cracked were removed and replaced with tarmac recently.

Dog Mess – several mentions of dog mess along Leafields . One of the culprits owners may be taking the dog out late at night to avoid detection. Suggestion – can a dog bin be provided?

Speeding Cars – Road is used as a cut through. Can traffic calming measures be brought in? Can centre lines be painted on the road, particularly at the corners?

Bushes – very high at number ▰▰. Can the height be brought down?

Trees – Rear of ▰▰ has high trees that are in “no-mans” land. Possible danger in high winds. Crown thinning is the selective pruning of branches throughout the canopy to reduce wind resistance. This is less harmful than “topping”. Please investigate what can be done.

Allyeway Cleaning – Needed in alleyway through to Peel Street. And alleyway from Leafields to Long Mead by the side of ▰▰ Leafields.
